A brief outline of the syllabus:

 

There are two papers, both essay based:

 

·     Physical:  structure, plate-tectonics, folding, faulting, meteorology, hydrology, coasts.

 

·      Human:  population, industry, urban, regional development, pollution and conservation, agriculture.

 

 

The particular qualities which are needed for this subject:

 

·        A good command of written English.

·        Basic Mathematical skills.

·        Some science.

·        Patience, and the ability to read widely.

 

 

Examination:

 

Paper 1                                    Physical Geography                                            3 hours

Paper 2                                    Human Geography                                              3 hours

 

 

Suggested prior grades which A level teachers feel are necessary for success in this subject.: (NB These may not be the minimum entry qualifications set by the Ministry)

 

O level credits in English, Maths, Science and Geography.

 

 

Further education and career prospects for someone who studies this subject-

 

Oceanography, cartographic work, planning, Environmental Management, Urban Planning, Surveying, Tourism and a wide range of other careers outside applied geography.
